Dear Mike,
Here's a follow-up on my yesterday 8:53 (+200) e-mail:

> about, and I'll let you know the results.
Well, this moring I was able to test the connection to the second network I
wrote about. Before that I had completely deinstalled avahi-daemon, and
shortly after that I already noticed a marked increase in speed when
establishing a DHCP connection to several other networks. This moring,
when I tried to connect to that 2nd network (to which I coudln't connect
anymore in the recent past) a connection was now *immediately* established.
So, although I won't be able to test connecting to the first network that
caused problems (that one's in India, while I'm in the Netherlands ;-), I'm
now fairly confident that in fact avahi-daemon was causing the problems.
So I suggest that my bug report is closed: my apologies if my initial report
already made you search for possible causes, and thank you for your helpful
earlier replies.
Unrelated to isc-dhcp-client: I still don't know why avahi-daemon was
initially installed. I noticed that it's recommened by cups, but it really
doesn't appear to do any good....
Thanks again,
