[Pkg-directfb-devel] Bug#507527: Is libmpeg3-dev dependency necessary?

Package: libdirectfb-dev
Version: 1.0.1-11
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

It seems that in Lenny and Sid there exists the following dependency chain:

libgtk2.0-dev -> libcairo2-dev -> libdirectfb-dev -> libmpeg3-dev

So as a result of installing a widget toolkit development library, one
ends up with an MPEG video decoding library? This is a little odd. Is
there any way to lower the Depends of libdirectfb-dev on libmpeg3-dev to
Recommends or Suggests?

I'm filing this wishlist bug against libdirectfb-dev since this
dependency is the one in the chain that looks most dubious to me (as a
third party with little knowledge of most of these libraries other than
GTK+). But feel free to reassign against someone else in the chain.

best regards,
