|
| It's time we had useful packages.
|
| So, as I said previously, here are some useful preliminary packages:
|
| You can build these using a non-Free JVM, you can run them without any
| modifications.
|
| A lot of the code was taken from the JPackage project. Some more was
| taking from the previous Eclipse 2.1 packages.
|
| There is much work to be done. If nobody wants them, then I'll just use
| them for myself. They are however a good start.
|
| Knowing where or even if I should commit these packages would be
| helpful.
|
| The plan is to use Kaffe or another free VM to build the Eclipse JDT,
| and then use the Eclipse JDT to build everything else. The first part is
| done. The second part is being "difficult". I'd appreciate help.

Jerry,
~ I agree, Eclipse 3.0 packages are way overdue. I would very much
like to get your valuable work into the repository so we can begin
knocking out the issues with getting the JDT to build this other stuff
as you mention.
~ At a gut level, I, too, think that eclipse might more-appropriately
belong in pkg-java; I just don't want to be hasty to conclude that
without fully understanding why it is now organized as a separate effort.
~ Am I to understand that you have Eclipse building and running on a
free JVM? That is major news. Can you please share a bit more about
exactly which JVM and version you are having success with?
~ Do you have an Alioth account yet? I thought I had seen you active
on some other pkg-java projects as 'wasabi-guest'. If so, we just
~ If not, that would be a good first step. Use the URL[0] below to go
through the process. Note that your username will have "-guest"
appended to it; this is normal. Once you have an account, Joerg can add
you in; he's the only full DD on the project.
~ We welcome you and embrace your effort in getting things moving -
even if you are using Ubuntu 8^).
