| No, it's not building on a free VM yet... but I think I'm pretty close.
|
| The approach is fairly simple: build the Eclipse JDT with Kaffe and then
| rebuild Eclipse with itself. It has a good chance of working.
|
| I have managed to get the Eclipse JDT compiling fine with Kaffe, with a
| few patches to fix up some imports (Kaffe bugs, will be reported once I
| have a handle on them).
|
| I have yet to work hard on getting Eclipse JDT building Eclipse. I know
| it doesn't Just Work, there are a few syntax errors, and similar things.
| I will simply fix them.
|
| Most importantly though, I just wanted an Eclipse 3.0 package, of any
| kind, so people could use it. It's taught me a ton about the Eclipse
| build system!

Jerry,
~ Thanks for the info. I was going to be pretty floored if you
already had Eclipse 3.0 building and running on a free JVM! Send a note
to Joerg Wendland if you haven't already asking to be added to the
project[0].
~ Do you agree that the 3.0.1 codebase should be our initial target?
~ I have been working with the Eclipse team on issues with their build
process for the PowerPC platform which has had numerous issues. For
some time neither the executable nor the SWT GTK libraries would build
on their own under PowerPC.
