You want $ apt-cache search mail-notification
mail-notification - mail notification in system tray

When 3.0 is released you will hopefully see it in debian, with the
updated support for newer versions of evolution.

For now this is only done via dbus. One other application which supports
evolution's dbus-signal is gnome-osd. Try it out.
