I am also seeing this bug with Fedora Core 5 RPMs:

so it's not specific to Debian.

This page from Novell
(http://www.novell.com/support/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=3770799&sliceId=SAL_Public&dialogID=13471269&stateId=0%200%2013469777) seems to describe the same issue (although with version 2.6.0) and provides a link to an RPM that supposedly fixes it however I assume it's set up for SuSE because I couldn't get it to work for me.
