I got a work around from an Arch forum. (https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=112225) The temporary solution seems to be to run evolution without any plugins $evolution --disable-eplugin I don't know where the problem is, but that seems to work OK. I am going to try to delete ~.evolution and rebuild it.
