Status of this bug in the upstream bugzilla is:

The new formatter merged for Evolution 3.5.3 is calling
em_utils_in_addressbook() asynchronously, thus it does not block GUI anymore.

Closing as fixed.

When 3.5.3 or later arrives in Debian this bug should be fixed.
