It's been a while since I bothered looking. At one point I was tracking
your work and whacking together some stuff myself ... I really didn't
like that codebase though.

I will agree getting started on doing some complex packaging is the hard
way. I would recommend you roll a few single binary packages and maybe a
lib package before diving in the deep end ... it also helps to look at
how other people have done things. Take a look at stuff like the apache
packages and the postfix packages (just install the source packages and
snoop around in the debian directory). Also be aware of the different
patching and build systems in use (I think from memory looking at apache
and postgres will give you a view of a couple of them).
