I don't understand.. I should've waited for 2.4 to hit unstable first?
The migration announcement came March this year, so the gap was
roughly ten months.

Fedora had a patch to make it build, wonder why they don't apply it
(and all the other patches..) to their upstream repo at
fedorahosted.org.. I'll ping them about it.
