 I just looked at the init script, it's awful.  I *just* realize that we
 have both been quite stupidly arguing about the creation of
 /var/run/fetchmail for a while, but it was completely braindead:
 /var/run is purged on each reboot.  *SIGH*

 The correct thing to do is to remove all utter crap in the postinst
 related to /var/run/fetchmail, add --no-create-home to the adduser
 call, and check the directory exists in the init script.

 I'll fix that as soon as I have SVN access.
