There's no $ in front of m-t-a. I have no idea whether or how that's

Sorry, I can't. But you might have a look at /etc/init.d/.depend.start
and see what's listed there as dependency of fetchmail.
Also, don't forget to re-run insserv after changing any of the LSB
headers.

I'm not sure whether this conversation is best placed in this bug,
a new one or in private mail, so I'm keeping the cc for now, but feel
free to change as you see fit.
