the file to edit is /etc/firebird/aliases.conf, not alias.conf.

Please suply contents of that file.

Also supply the command line with which you start isql-fb. Is there any
possibility that you have firebird2-utils-classic installed? If so, then you
should use something like
  isql-fb localhost:myfile.fdb
to route the connection through the superserver.
