Enrico,

pkg-firebird-general is closed list, meaning that only subscribers can
post to it. Anyone can subscribe, though. See [1] for information about
subscribing. The list is very low traffic.

No exact date. Next year for sure :)

The packaging is basically done, I have to integrate some debconf tricks
from 1.5 branch packaging (these debconf tricks are not even in sid,
where 1.5 lives, to avoid any problems with the etch release).

I am not sure if the current packages are of interest to you. If so,
drop me a mail and I'll make them public in the very beginning of 2007.
I need to make some more checks before I am confident they won't blow
out the life from the planet :)
