Sounds related to the lock-file-location.patch. Try commenting it in 
debian/patches/series, rebuild and try again.

Reading the code, that patch isn't really necessary. The lock 
directory is created indeed for avoiding any clash with existing 
directories.

I suspect they will suffer from the same problem.
