As seen on 
http://packages.debian.org/sid/amd64/firebird2.1-classic/filelist the 
Debian package does not ship /usr/bin/isql or /usr/bin/gstat. Is it 
possible that these are manually created symlinks?

The version of your package seems a bit strange (not something that 
was uploaded to Debian archive). Perhaps it contains changes that are 
responsible for the problem you see?
