Thanks!

Enabling flashblock for all sites including Youtube solved the problem I 
had been experiencing.

I couldn't find any pointers from the gnash manual page to the files 
used /etc/gnashrc, ~/.gnashrc or to the documentation in 
/usr/share/doc/gnash-common.
