Awesome; thanks for figuring this all out! [I glanced at the codebase
a while ago, and decided that I didn't have time to figure out what
was going on, either.]
Fontforge maintainers: should I get upstream involved in this? Or do
you think that the one-line patch is reasonable enough to try? [We
could probably get a custom package with the patch installed onto
zelenka by DSA for testing lilypond... and perhaps even have some of
these fonts that fail thrown into a cheap "test suite" of sorts.]
