Sounds like the same bug that gentoo ran into here:

 https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=327113

It looks like there are multiple changes upstream related to making
fontforge build cleanly with python2.7:

 http://fontforge.cvs.sourceforge.net/viewvc/fontforge/fontforge/fontforge/ffpython.h?view=log

maybe packaging the new upstream release is in order?  20110222 appears
to be published at:

 https://sourceforge.net/projects/fontforge/files/fontforge-source/
