I checked the situation; the embedded copy is newer than the version
shipped in the debian package, and (diffing the two) there are
substantial changes in some calls , so at first glance I cannot simply
delete the embedded copy and symlink the packaged one. I need some time
to understand. Another annoying point is that the version in
python-feedparser seems to need beautifulsoup for some operations, and
this spells a lot of trouble, see http://bugs.debian.org/564160
