Should not debconf substitute the default value with the preseeded one,
no matter if /e/d/nodm exists?

What does that mean? debconf preseeding is not so easy to understand
and I remember I fought about it back at DebConf8, the result being
already in the install.sh script (line 652 [1]):

--8<---------------cut here---------------start------------->8---
echo " * Installing dash as /bin/sh: $DASH_BINSH"
echo 'dash dash/sh string $DASH_BINSH' | chroot $INST_DIR debconf-set-selections
chroot $INST_DIR apt-get --yes --force-yes install dash
--8<---------------cut here---------------end--------------->8---

You can get the available debconf values with `debconf-show $PKG` ;-)

HTH, in case not, can you better explain where the problem is?

Thx, bye,
Gismo / Luca
