it certainly is interesting to have a cryptroot setup on the FreeRunner,
but I’m very reluctant to accept this patch: It adds a great deal of
complexity that needs to be maintained for a feature that probably only
a few are going for.
I think this should rather be a HOWTO somewhere, describing the steps of
the setup. Also, people interested in sophisticated, automated setups
(not me at the moment :-)) should probably invest in getting d-i
running, as that already provides some cryto setup stuff.
Also, expecially with big patches, avoid unrelated and stylistic changes
in the diff.
