I'm entirely in agreement with this.
The reason I wrote in the 'custom code' was for my use, I thought it
might be handy to others so I 'sent it upstream'.
The reason for adding it was imaging multiple [two] freerunners (which
I'm doing).
Instead of installing them one by one, then installing the extra
packages, I thought of adding an optional installer component which
depended only on 'mount' (so the chroot was available).
Personally, I'd use custom to install navit (as in the submitted code.
perhaps a bad example), along with screen, irssi, and several other
'key' applications I use.
