yep, but as you have noticed yourself it doesn't work yet :(

You can setup the device via dpkg-reconfigure gestures-daemon if you
want to. So far I haven't got out why it's not opening the config
dialog when installing the package.

Well I will try to open the debconf dialog in the postinstall.
Please be aware of the fact, that the accelometers will be powered
on while the daemon is running. I guess I will add a note in
Readme.Debian and in the debconf menu - its uses battery power even
if gestures daemon is not used most of the time. Probably most users
do not want to autostart it via rc.d.

yep, if you start gesm in verbose mode you will see, that it
receives only 0,0 values. I guess it's because of the 2.6.29 kernel,
but I will ask upstream for any hints.
