I'm having some problems with nodm as well
debian-gta02:~# nodm
nodm: cannot open /dev/tty7: No such file or directory
nodm: cannot allocate a virtual terminal
This is with nodm 0.6-1
I have tried to purge it and reinstall it...
An indeed
debian-gta02:~# ls -l /dev/tty*
crw-rw-rw- 1 root root 5, 0 Jul 28 13:33 /dev/tty
crw-rw---- 1 root root 4, 0 Jul 28 13:33 /dev/tty0
crw------- 1 root root 4, 1 Jul 28 13:34 /dev/tty1
crw-rw---- 1 root root 4, 2 Jul 28 13:34 /dev/tty2
crw-rw---- 1 root root 4, 3 Jul 28 13:34 /dev/tty3
crw-rw---- 1 root root 4, 4 Jul 28 13:34 /dev/tty4
crw-rw---- 1 root root 4, 5 Jul 28 13:34 /dev/tty5
crw-rw---- 1 root root 4, 6 Jul 28 13:34 /dev/tty6
crw-rw---- 1 root dialout 204, 64 Jul 28 13:33 /dev/ttySAC0
crw-rw---- 1 root dialout 204, 65 Jul 28 13:33 /dev/ttySAC1
crw-rw---- 1 root dialout 204, 66 Jul 28 13:33 /dev/ttySAC2
Creating it with mknod dos not seem to fix the problem...
debian-gta02:~# cat /proc/version
Linux version 2.6.28-20090105.git69b2aa26 (gismo at agricola) (gcc version
4.3.3 (Debian 4.3.3-3) ) #1 PREEMPT Tue Mar 3 20:22:28 UTC 2009
P.S.
xdm brings up a greater if forced to run on vt1 by
editing /etc/X11/xdm/Xservers
The default setting is vt7
