Hi Brian!

This was discussed extensively in the past:

  http://lists.linuxtogo.org/pipermail/smartphones-userland/2008-November/000378.html

Basically, I for myself do not support it, but we are still keeping it
for those people who wants to try Debian with the least effort, since
U-Boot in NOR can boot a vfat+ext2 microSD.

As soon as the debian-installer (d-i) will support the Openmoko, vfat
support will be abandoned.

I hope you are kidding...

I do not want to start any flame, but I do not see why U-Boot should be
dropped. One killing feature is the a boot menu, something which is
quite nice for example on GTA01 where you do not have NOR/NAND flashes
(in case you have kernel problems). And just consider that NOR seems to
be removed from GTA02_core:

  http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Gta02-core

I still do not understand the need for yet another boot loader instead
of improving U-Boot. But maybe I have so far failed because as a
biologist I am still missing a proper formation in Computer Science.

Thx, bye,
Gismo / Luca
