This is how it the d-i is started on the Kurobox
Pro (although to/from harddisk instead of SD).
(Actually on most NAS devices that Debian support
iirc.)
It is fairly simple for the user to perform an
installation this way. (Write d-i images to somewhere,
configure boot-loader, reboot, SSH in [on the FR you
could possibly use the screen though].)
