IMHO this is no problem, both MIT and X license are compatible with the
GPL, so I suggest you go ahead unless d-legal screams.

(no diverging opinion on your other points :-))

About the Kernel stuff: Maybe we are lucky and a Debian kernel developer
chooses to by a FreeRunner at DebConf :-)
