I consider the svn revision the "version" number it is just a number.

However it might have one unforeseen problem.
Should I ever have to move the repository I would have to make 100% sure
that the new revision numbers are greater than the old ones
(Even worse if I would change to a system using say MD5 sums as revision)

The next release will be version 8.0 with the appropriate ~svn debian version.
