It was a package fso-gpsd that was previously installed and apparently
it is removed upon installation of navit

[apt-get install navit]
...
The following extra packages will be installed:
  libgps19
Suggested packages:
  maptool
Recommended packages:
  gpsd
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  fso-gpsd
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  libgps19 navit
...
# apt-cache show libgps19 | grep ^Conflicts
Conflicts: fso-gpsd

However, the gpsd was not installed, and as such there as no gpsd to be
contacted ... which is what tangogps complained about. I have
reinstalled fso-gpsd and tangogps works again. Well, I should probably
move over to gpsd, but then install.sh should move to gpsd, too. Should it?

You have, indeed. Many thanks!
