[pkg-fso-maint] My state of Debian/SHR on the Freerunner

  Hi all,

I used to grumble and complain aimlessly that everything was broken,
so last week-end I did a full reinstall of Debian with the install.sh
script (and very little customisation afterwards), and I'd like to say
how happy I am that things now work *much* *much* better. A big thank
you to all involved.

The good: SHR dialer, contacts, messages work nice; the new addition
of fsoraw is awesome (hint: sed s/Exec.*/Exec=fsoraw -r CPU tangogps/
/usr/share/applications/tangogps.desktop >
~/.local/share/applications/tangogps.desktop); I'll keep zhone installed
for a while, but I don't think I'll use it except to check on the GPS
satellite stuff when I can't get a fix.

The slightly less good: Enlightenment still crashes from time to time,
but apparently only when I'm playing around with .desktop files and not
during normal operation; the newly-added phoneui-phonelog exits with an
error (Method "DisplayList" with signature "a{sv}" on interface
"org.shr.phoneui.PhoneLog" doesn't exist), but I've lived without a call
log for more than a year, so I don't consider that too critical;
mokomaze doesn't have permissions to access the accelerometer (I created
a non-root account); once the blue (power) LED switches on because the
battery is full, it never goes off except during suspend.

The irritating: I still get the WSOD on resume if the Freerunner
suspends during the night. Anecdotal evidence seems to agree with the
correlation to “cold” (17 °C in my office, where I left the phone, this
morning).

My (mostly outsider) understanding is that the last two problems may
be kernel-related, and that the 2.6.33 kernel may well be the missing
piece. If so, then I'll consider that the goal of a truly usable phone
running pure Debian is reached, and spread the rejoicing :-)

Again: thank you to all involved. One of these days, take half an
hour to boot Om2007.2 again and see the amazing progress that's happened
since. You guys rock :-)

Roland.
