JFTR: This needs an "|| true" if your init script uses "set -e",
otherwise starting or restarting the DM besides a fresh system bootup
might fail.

Hrm. I've just uploaded wdm without "--wait" (c.f. #860464, Cc'ed).
Please file a new bug report against wdm if I should change that.

But so far I was unable to reproduce any misbehaviour between wdm and
plymouth inside a KVM instance -- even not before that upload.
