No I didn't, but I discovered that Vega Strike has it's own bug tracker:

So I submitted a bug report there, too, and posted a link to this bug
report.

I also discovered that I can run Vega Strike on the same hardware using
Ubuntu 9.10 + vegastrike 0.5~svn12126-2.

I'm using Ubuntu 9.04,  and the 0.5~svn12126-2 version of the vegastrike package.
Vegastrike crashed just a couple of seconds I started it. First time trying, I never saw it working on this configuration.
