You do not have to compile source, at least on i386 and AMD64 since
there is pre-built Linux binaries. However, manual unzipping to home
directory is not a great way to install applications on Linux (and
updates will not be tracked by package manager, etc). Proper way is to
install application is package manager. That's where it fails because of
ancient version which is NOT SUPPORTED by upstream anymore...

Status in “nexuiz” source package in Ubuntu: New

Bug description:
Binary package hint: nexuiz

This bug is a wish:
Now Ubuntu supplies Nexuiz 2.4.2 by default and it's pretty outdated.
Right now Nexuiz 2.5.1 is available and
 1) Nexuiz 2.5.x servers are not fully compatible with 2.4.x clients in client-server interaction. Most of Nexuiz servers updated to 2.5.x versions. Hence, those who uses 2.4.x clients may encounter weird gameplay experience.
 2) Lots of things changed between 2.4 and 2.5 and 2.5.x got a bunch of new features, bug fixes and improvements.
 3) Usage of outdated 2.4.x by Ubuntu users causes unwanted troubles to servers administrators, players, etc since many players are using Ubuntu now.

What about the Ubuntu repository? In Ubuntu 9.04 its still only the 2.4.2 downloadable Sad Since 90% of the new players come to Nexuiz through Ubuntu its quite a serious issue.
