It should be fixed in 2.5.2 (but I didn't test it).

Status in “nexuiz” package in Ubuntu: Fix Committed

Bug description:
After upgrade to Ubuntu 8.10 nexuiz doesn't display bot players in one player game. 

Using recommended install of nvidia drivers. 

File of gameplay available if necessary, although currently only viewable in nexuiz, so probably not good evidence.
