Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tumiki-fighters

I am very new to Ubuntu (live-persistent 10.04.1, on an external HDD,
Thinkpad(nVidia)).

2 - version) I updated a lot; so this was valid maybe a week or so ago.

3 - what did I expect) Um. I expected the game to work? (Reading
below...)

This is perhaps rather a Debian bug than an Ubuntu bug, since I've seen the exact same thing in Knoppix 6.2.1. (Either live or live-persistent - not sure.)
I am affected by it on my laptop, but so is my colleague who is playing with Knoppix on a slightly different version Thinkpad(Intel gfx).

In a nutshell, it is as if I am pressing up & left on the keyboard. I can sometimes start the game, but that is kind of pointless.
But at least I can press ESC to get out (better than having to go kill it.)

Here is the rub: it is not just this game - it seems to include everything by the same author... as a start! Another example would be OpenSonic. (Another game or so has the funny thing where the menu-listing keeps on cycling - kind of like: Whack-a-Mole III - The Re-Re-Return Of The Menu Option.)
I started going through the games systematically, and I guess something in the order of around 20 or so of them are affected by this. Seriously. (When I first got Ubuntu, I went install-crazy and installed nearly every game there is in the repository... he he!)

I've reinstalled several times since then, so I don't have much more detail here and now. As with the other bug I reported (just call me Magellan!), if it is deemed necessary then I'll go hunting for them all again.
Note that this bug is as consistent as a metronome: install game, it no workies. Period. Fact. I've never seen this game work on any other platform than XP.

If is was just a game or so, I guess this wouldn't be such a big deal...
but then again this is a REALLY cool game :-(

Hope this helps.

Regards,
R.
