First i installed the game via synaptic, tried to run it over main menue and got full system-freeze with no other option left then hard power off.
2. uninstalled, tried the sourcecode from http://cultivation.sourceforge.net/, preliminary I installed the packages 
freeglut3 (2.4.0-6.1ubuntu1)
freeglut3-dev (2.4.0-6.1ubuntu1)
glutg3 (3.7-25)
glutg3-dev (3.7-25)
libglut3 (3.7-25)
libglut3-dev (3.7-25)
via synaptic in order to fullfill dependencies specified on http://cultivation.sourceforge.net/ 
(dunno if they where the right choice,was  just guessing)
I failed in compiling
	 
3. I installed again the cultivation package via synaptic, thinking maybe defective dependencies (glut-stuff) had caused the error in the first place

4. I started cultivation from terminal to see what happened -> program ran perfectly

5. Tried to run it again from ubuntu main menue -> full system freeze as described earlier

6. ran it few times from terminal with no failure

7. tried to run it again from terminal after i accidentialy exited the program  -> full system freeze as described earlier

8. same kind of failure when starting from terminal after reboot
