I change assignment for Wine because as say in the bug summary this seem
to be more related to Wine than PlayOnLinux (btw POL is nothing more
than a front-end for Wine).
** Package changed: playonlinux (Ubuntu) => wine (Ubuntu)

Title:
Display freeze randomly when using Unity desktop (particularly with
Windows apps run using wine)
Status in “wine” package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
Ubuntu version: 11.04 (Natty) Beta 1, not fixed as of 11/04/2011
I've read the other reports on freezes with Unity, but none are
similar to mine, so I open a new bug.
Unity can work just fine for several hours and freeze the desktop suddendly, mouse move, bug nothing react, even the seconds on the clock of the notification zone are not updating. I have to kill X and login again.
Note that this doesn't happen with classic GNOME desktop (Ubuntu (Classic)).
I found a way to reproduce it quite easily, it seems to appears more
often when using Windows apps with wine or playonlinux:
1) Install playonlinux package from Ubuntu repositories
2) Once installed, launch PlayOnLinux
3) Click on "Install" to install a new Windows app
4) Select "Office" category, and select "Microsoft Office 2007"
5) Try to install MS Office (need a MS Office CD).
It'll freeze at one time, can be even before launching the MS Office
installer (for example when creating the wine prefix).
I've seen no traces on syslog or X.org log. So I can't provide any
debug log, I don't even was is causing the freeze exactly (X.org,
compiz, unity itself, wine?). That's why I provide steps to help to
reproduce it so you can try it by yourself.
Also the hardware I have is:
Machine: HP xw4600 Workstation (RV724AV)
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz
GPU: ATI FireGL V3700 (RV620)
RAM: 4GB
Full hardware profile available here:

Also I tried both proprietary FGLRX and open source radeon drivers.
Same issue wether I use the proprietary or the open source driver.
