I've found this old version about this issue. Maybe the rubber.patch was removed from the official release, so it re-surfaced again?
supertuxkart (0.6.2+dfsg1-1) unstable; urgency=low
    * Drop rubber.patch again as it was taken from 0.6.2 branch
and is part of this release

Title:
supertuxkart crashes when using the rubber rope

Status in “supertuxkart” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 11.04 amd64
  supertuxkart 0.7+dfsg1-1build1
Very often (about 1 out of 5 times) the game exits with segfault when the player or AI karts use the rubber rope. This makes the game pretty much unplayable, because it's almost impossible to complete a grand prix without crashing.
