I looked up the .desktop spec and made a partial solution allowing use
of Mednafen with NES programs. It should be extended to all MIME types
that Mednafen supports emulating. Toss it in
$HOME/.local/share/applications and retry the Open With sequence.

  New

Bug description:
  Due to bug 853061 (which is bugzilla.gnome.org bug 650284), I cannot
  associate ROM images with Mednafen. A comment to bugzilla.gnome.org
  bug 650284 states that an application intended to appear in the "Open
  With..." list "should advertise all the mimetypes it can handle in its
  desktop file". Mednafen does not.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. sudo apt-get install mednafen
  2. download LJ65 from lj65.org and unzip
  3. right-click lj65.nes
  4. choose "Open With Other Applications..."
  5. scroll through the list

  Expected result:
  Mednafen present

  Actual result:
  Mednafen not present
