Ah, that's a relief.
The format of .freeciv-client-rc-2.2 and friends isn't documented, but
the options you mention are reachable in the game UI on the View menu,
and in the client options (Game / Options / Local client); there is more
documentation in the latter.

pollution is invisible

Bug description:
the pollution glyph is invisible on the map.
it is reported by the message log, and affects global warming, but it is not visible on the map.
you can try editing the map using "ctrl-e" and placing pollution on a cell; the cell remains clean.
I use hex2t tiles.
