testing on  Ubuntu 12.04 - 64bit / AMD Phenom II 965 quadcore / 8GB

It is indeed a lot better, even the sound latency has gone down.
most of the time it is working.

there is one persistant bug:
Cannot load music: music/intro.xm

somtimes still a crash followed by:

NameError: global name 'music_pending_song' is not defined

and also periodically short freezes of the screen during gameplay

  Hi there,

  Never had any problems with pathological until now.
  started up, didn't play any sound.
  tried to toggle sound off and on again from within the game menu and it bailed out....perculiar eh ?
  ;-)

  Personally I don't think this is a pathlogical problem, I tend to
  think that this is alsa related.
