I could not reproduce this with Ubuntu 12.04.x/Precise or 13.04/Raring. Since glchess/gnome-chess 3.x has been rewritten to use Vala and C instead of python, the python-opengl package is no longer required. I think it's safe to close this bug as Fixed Released since 10.04/Lucid will be EOL very soon.
