Problem present with OA 0.8.8-9 on Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit.

Workaround: xgamma -gamma 3.5 ; openarena; xgamma -gamma 1

  Image is too dark in openarena 0.8.1-6 in Lucid (Development)
  Regulating image brightness from System > Display > Brightness (in-game settings) does not have any effect.
