I get this same bug on Raspbian with jumpnbump 1.51, and it goes away when running the game with -nosound. I suspect the error is not just with Ubuntu, then?
Interesting to see that it happens on Ubuntu, if I can reproduce it, I might have better luck debugging it than I have had so far.
