Public bug reported:
While copying large files (i.e. >500MB) the window displaying the data
transfer status, or progress, is totally wrong.
Using Ubuntu 16.04 LTS 64-bit.
When I copy a 592MB file to a USB 2.0 flash drive formatted to NTFS the
transfer status climbs very fast then finishes and closes, all within a
couple seconds which is too fast. Then I use udisksctrl command to
unmount the USB drive, and although the window displaying the USB shows
it change to unmounted, the terminal cursor just hangs for a couple
minutes then finally outputs the "Unmounted" message once the file
finishes copying.
When copying the same file to a different USB 2.0 flash, formatted to
FAT32, the status jumps immediately to i.e. 586 MB of 592 MB and hangs
there for a couple minutes then closes when the transfer is done. At
least this shows the file operation is still in progress, even if it
appears frozen.
I've tried this several times on two different machines (desktop &
laptop) running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS 64-bit, and the problem is always the
same as described above. On another machine running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
32-bit the transfer progress is displayed correctly, gradually climbing
then closing the window when finished.
Also, when transferring from the USB drives to the host machine the
progress works fine in all cases. The problems only occur when
transferring to the external USB drives.
