Sure, but I have small interest in maintaining ggz, apart from having
working dependencies for gnome-games. I'm already maintaining too many
packages given my time constraints.

I can't answer on this part, I think you should ask the German GNOME
translators. In fact, I don't understand why they didn't merge the
existing translations at first.

Yes, gettext kept all comments in the .po files. The GGZ inclusion in
gnome-games was done in late 2006, so all earlier copyrights can be
blown away, but it's not as if they are harmful either).

I have done them the same way we did translation packages in the GNOME
team recently; this way, out-of-sync translations are allowed but it
solves all dependency issues, and you can install two versions of the
library at once. In all cases, you need those translation packages, as
they contain translations for the libraries, not only for the support
binaries contained in the same packages they are currently.
