We'll definitely rethink the thing about the /dev/mouse symlink.  I
personally don't see the need to do this, so I'll try and find out why
it was done.

As for starting the daemon automatically, that's pretty much how all
daemon packages in Debian work.  I don't consider it a bug.

I'm cloning this bug report since it's actually two separate bugs.  In
the future, if you have two different issues to report, we'd appreciate
getting two separate bug reports.  That makes everything easier to deal
with.  In particular, in this case, I've just fixed the latter bug, but
we haven't decided yet what to do about the former.
