Hi,
It seems we're all there! Let's get something productive started and
decide of the public SCM for Debian GStreamer packages. I don't want
to start a big "SVN versus Arch" discussion, I'll try to keep it short.
I - Choice
1/ personal preferences
I've got the feeling that Sebastien Bacher, and me are fond of
Subversion, while David I. Lehn historically used Arch for his
packages. I think David Schleef is at least ok with Subversion.
Everybody please correct me if any of this is wrong.
At least Sebastien Bacher and me are working on svn-buildpackaged
repositories, pkg-gnome and pkg-galeon.
2/ offline / online modes, mirrors, branches
A big problem I see with Arch is that one needs to periodically remerge
trees, for the biggest benefit of everyone being able to work offline
or on big code reworks for a long period of time. None of this seems
really crucial for packages though, in the contrary, I feel it is
really important that the central repository stays up-to-date for team
work on packages.
Arch repositories are really easy to mirror.
3/ existing
David I. Lehn already has an Arch repository, but it ain't public.
Pkg-GStreamer already has an empty SVN repository.
My personal choice would go to subversion, but I'm fine if Arch gets
picked.
II - Import
I suppose that if we go for the Arch option, we will request an
arch.debian.org repository, and import taaz' repository into it.
In the case of Subversion, I'm willing to try to import the history
if I find tools to do so over this weekend for example. I think we
shouldn't spend too much time waiting for though, and if I fail to find
time or scripts to do so, I suggest we simply import the current
packages into the repository.
III - Lists
I think this list can be used for general discussion, but I'm not sure
whether we need a separate list with subscriptions to the PTS for
GStreamer packages. It can either go to this list or we can subscribe
ourselves. Let me know what you'd prefer.
Thoughts?
Bye,
