It disables some CPU optimisations that may cause trouble on G3
processors. Obviously this is not enough.

Well, nothing really useful here, except this confirms this is a problem
somewhere in the GStreamer stack. Reassigning.
@debian-powerpc: as it seem to render gstreamer completely useless on G3
processors, I think this must be addressed before the release. If anyone
with powerpc knowledge has some time to find what is going wrong, that
would be very helpful.
